Nottingham Forest sign keeper Matt Turner!

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of goalkeeper Matt Turner from Arsenal FC.

The USA international has signed a four-year deal, keeping him at The City Ground until the summer of 2027.

Turner, 29, has made 32 appearances for the USA since making his international debut in February 2021, captaining his country during their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign this summer.

Turner made his name in the MLS, making 111 appearances during a six-year spell at New England Revolution.

In 2021, he was selected to play in the MLS All-Star Game after being named Goalkeeper of the Year in the MLS Best XI, and was named All-Star’s MVP after making two saves in their penalty shootout victory over Liga MX.

Turner was also influential for the USA as they won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021, named as Goalkeeper of the Tournament after keeping five clean sheets in six matches.

The shot-stopper moved to North London last June, keeping three clean sheets in five UEFA Europa League outings for the Gunners as well as starting four times for the USA during their FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar.

Turner now moves to Trentside to become Forest’s third signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga.

Matt Turner said: “It feels great to be here. It’s something I’m really looking forward to, it’s a great challenge and a great step in my career.

“When I heard that there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family, it felt right when my agent spoke to me about it and it feels like the right move for me right now.”

“The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it. It’s felt right from the start and I’m happy it’s got done.”

“I’m looking forward to making a connection with my teammates, the fans and the city. I’m grateful to be here and can’t wait to get things started.”

Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson added: “We are pleased to welcome Matt to the club today.

“Our coaching staff are looking forward to working with him immensely and I know Matt is excited to get going with the staff and players.”
