Calcutta Football League champions East Bengal Club’s winning run came to an end with a 2-2 draw in the mini-Kolkata derby against Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Calcutta Football League – Premier Division ‘A’ at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
East Bengal had the perfect start with Syrian midfielder Mahmoud Al Amna giving them a second minute lead, but Mohammedan Sporting hit back with a 23rd minute equaliser by former red and gold striker Jiten Murmu. It remained one-all at the break.
The Black Panthers were now better and went ahead in the 67th minute through their Cameroonian goalgetter Aser Dipanda Dicka, but East Bengal striker Willis Deon Plaza of Trinidad & Tobago equalised in the 86th minute to safe his team the blushes after having hit the woodwork earlier.
Despite dropping points, East Bengal move back to the top of the CFL standings with now 19 points from seven matches the same as archrivals Mohun Bagan, but with a better goal difference.
