Joydeep Mukherjee elected as new IFA (West Bengal) secretary!

Joydeep Mukherjee has been elected unopposed as the new secretary of the Indian Football Association (West Bengal) to succeed Utpal Kumar Ganguli, who had served the federation over 12 years across three terms.

Utpal Ganguli had said a few weeks ago that he would not stand in the elections due to age, which originally would have seen Joydeep Mukherjee face former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) secretary Biswarup Dey in a contest for the secretary post but the favourite Dey pulled out and left it for Joydeep Mukherjee to get elected.

Joydeep Mukherjee comes into the IFA secretary position as its former assistant secretary and being an executive member of East Bengal Club.

Joydeep Mukherjee after being elected said, “For the position the IFA is in today, it has dug its own hole through the years. I have been given this responsibility now and I hope to have the support of everyone to be successful. If I cannot be successful, I will move away from this post myself.”

“There are outstanding debts of the IFA and we will try to bring in sponsors and pay those off. But, at the same time, we have improve the quality and quantity of football under our wing, bring in new sponsors. We have four tournaments to organize and I believe we will wrap up it before September this season. It will be the teamwork of all in the IFA, not just me.”

“There are plans in place. I believe nothing is impossible,” Joydeep Mukherjee ended by saying.
