Bengaluru FC’s hunt for three points continues when they face Jamshedpur FC in Bambolim on Monday. The Blues are now winless in six games failing to pick up all points since their opening day victory against NorthEast United FC. After playing out a 3-3 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan on Thursday, Bengaluru FC uncovered a lot of positives, playing some free flowing football and being lethal on the set-pieces. However, defensive frailties, continue to hamper Bengaluru FC’s search for three points, and the Blues will be hoping to mend that aspect against an in-form opponent.
“Our mentality, the creativity and the offensive transition was good. There were many positives, but what we need to improve is our defensive organization and that’s why ATKMB had a lot of corner kicks against us,” Marco Pezzaiuoli said, speaking to the media on the eve of the game.
The Blues boss is aware of the threat that the Jamshedpur FC frontline possesses, and the quality they have going forward and will need his defenders to be at their best when they go up against the Red Miners. Greg Stewart has been Owen Coyle’s in-form man, having scored the club’s first-ever hattrick in a 4-0 demolition of Odisha FC. But Pezzaiuoli said his side would have to focus on every attacking option that Jamshedpur possess. “They have four very good attacking players, and Greg Stewart is one of them. We’ve played two pre-season friendlies against them, and have an idea of the kind of threat they possess,” Pezzaiuoli added.
Jamshedpur FC have had a good start to the season finding themselves in third position after six games. They have won three out of their last five games and will look to build on their good form through the season. Bengaluru FC are currently tenth in the table with just five points from seven games, a victory against Jamshedpur will help the Blues move up the table.
Bengaluru FC will have Suresh Singh Wangjam back in the squad after the midfielder served his one-match ban for picking up a red card against FC Goa. However, Naorem Roshan Singh will miss out due to suspension (four yellows). “We are missing Roshan, who is suspended because of his fourth yellow card. There are a couple of players who are sick, so there is a question mark there. King and Leon will continue to miss out, while Sharon is also injured. But we have around 26 fit players to choose from and I am certain they will rise to the occasion” said Pezzaiuoli.
Kick-off between Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC is at 7.30pm and will be telecast live on the STAR Sports Network, Disney+Hotstar and JioTV.
