Inaugural AFC Certificate in Football Leadership participants begin journey towards excellence!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today kicked off their online AFC Certificate in Football Leadership (ACFL) programme, the latest in the line-up of education initiatives under the landmark AFC Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE) aimed at moulding Asian football leaders and enhancing their capabilities.

Decision-makers from the AFC Member Associations (MAs) and other football stakeholders make up the first ACFL batch. During the six-month programme, they will sit for six modules that combine the best of theoretical perspectives, hands-on activities and case studies to boost their leadership skills.

In his opening speech, AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John said: “In every way, the AFC’s vision to become the world’s leading Confederation is anchored in creating a vibrant footballing landscape where capable people are driving innovative and purposeful change.”

“This ACFL programme has been designed to empower participants with the necessary competencies to lead Asian football to the next phase of development and professionalism,” he added.

“It will also equip them with the key leadership principles required to succeed against the backdrop of our evolving landscape.”

The session, which was hosted by AFC Deputy General Secretary – Member Associations, Vahid Kardany, also saw the AFC General Secretary share insights from his extraordinary career journey as well as valuable advice and guidance to the participants.

The six modules comprise the Principles of Leadership, Influence and Impact through Communication, Organisational Design and Development in Football, Environmental, Social and Governance in Football, A Leader’s Perspective of Football Development & Performance as well as Managing Projects in Football.

These modules are developed exclusively by the AFC to advance the development of football leaders with the required perspectives, skill sets and tools. They are also designed to introduce concepts aligned with the industry’s best practices.

Upon graduating, and armed with the relevant leadership concepts and theories, ACFL participants are expected to apply their practical and theoretical understanding to overcome organisational challenges, leverage opportunities in the football ecosystem and use their newfound skills and learning principles to initiate change and growth within their respective organisations.

The ACFL represents the growing educational offerings under the breakthrough AFC ACE, building on the success of the ongoing AFC Football Management Certificate and the AFC Football Management Diploma.
