Paul Seguin joins Schalke 04 with immediate effect!

The Royal Blues are delighted to announce the signing of central midfielder Paul Seguin from 1.Union Berlin. The 28-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season and will take on the number seven shirt at Schalke 04. Further details of the transfer will not be disclosed.

“We are delighted that we have been able to bring Paul to Schalke. He is very versatile in his position, both in attack and in defence. He has a good understanding of the game and he’ll be able to create promising attacking situations with his strong passing ability,” explained sporting director André Hechelmann.

“Paul has a good awareness of the spaces and the runs, so he’ll create good opportunities for us from deep. These are exactly the qualities that we’ll need in order to create and take advantage of goalscoring opportunities. He knows what it means to deal with the pressure of a promotion battle and to make the leap into the Bundesliga from his time at Fürth,” said head coach Thomas Reis.

Paul Seguin is also very much looking forward to coming to Gelsenkirchen: “The management have explained the interesting path that they would like to take in the talks and I’m looking forward to embarking upon it with the team here at Schalke. I can’t wait to play in front of S04’s passionate supporters in the stadium.”

Seguin scored one goal and picked up three assists for Union Berlin last term, in a season in which the Berliners secured UEFA Champions League football. Born in Magdeburg, Seguin made the move to FCU in the summer of 2022 from SpVgg Greuther Fürth. During his time at Greuther Fürth, the midfielder earned promotion to the Bundesliga after a stellar 2020/21 season.

The former Germany U-21 international spent his youth career at 1.FC Lok Stendal, before moving to VfL Wolfsburg where he made his Bundesliga debut. He spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Dynamo Dresden.
