SC East Bengal’s Renedy Singh: We need to treat every game as if it’s our last!

Renedy Singh has quite a lot of ground to make up after taking over the reins as the interim head coach from Jose Manuel Diaz at SC East Bengal. The iconic former India captain, however, is not one to get bogged down by impending challenges.

When SCEB Media caught up with Renedy on the sidelines of the SC East Bengal’s practice session, he sounded optimistic. Talking about the last match against Hyderabad FC, he hailed the spirit of the team. “We were not so good against Northeast United, but the way the team played the last match, that was a very good fight. Credit to the boys, they have been giving their 100% in the last two training sessions and if we can continue with the same fighting spirit, I’m sure we will achieve better results,” the former NEROCA FC coach said.

Renedy, who has played for several clubs such as East Bengal Club, Mohun Bagan AC, JCT among others, sought to find positives from the tough matches his team has played so far. “When we lose, the team morale goes down. But then again, we played really well against some strong teams who are sitting on the upper half of the ISL points table, like Kerala Blasters, Jamshedpur FC, and Hyderabad FC. It goes to show that our team is not as bad as the table suggests. I’m telling the boys to keep working hard, and asking them to treat each match as if it is their last one. Should they continue the grind, this team has the potential to do well,” he said.

Renedy Singh was clear in his views about the tactical changes his team needs to make. “We have to work on the structure and maintain the shape. Everyone has to work together as a unit. The transition from defence to attack and vice versa is very important.”

The former midfielder, who has scored a total of 17 goals for the Red-&-Gold Brigade, is no stranger to supporters’ expectations. “SC East Bengal has always played at the highest level, been towards the higher side in the points table, so I know it is not easy for the supporters, but I want to request the fans to keep up the support. The support from the fans in spite of not doing well has been phenomenal, and I have been telling my boys to give it their all for the fans,” Renedy said.
