Title-chasing Sreenidi Deccan FC host resurgent Churchill Brothers!

Sreenidi Deccan FC are aiming to keep the I-League title race alive as they host Churchill Brothers in a Matchweek 20 clash at the Deccan Arena stadium on Sunday, March 24. The Deccan Warriors picked up a crucial 2-1 win away at Gokulam Kerala last time out which prevented league leaders Mohammedan Sporting from running away with the championship and up next for the Hyderabad-based side are the Red Machines from Goa.

Sreenidi Deccan FC head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto and midfielder Arun Kumar addressed the media ahead of the clash. Speaking about the win over Gokulam Kerala, the Portuguese tactician said, “It showed that the players are united, committed and focused until the final whistle and this means a lot at this stage of the season. Sometimes, it is the mentality more than the tactics or the fitness that wins you matches and our players showed that against Gokulam Kerala.”

Sreenidi Deccan FC defeated Churchill Brothers 2-1 in the corresponding fixture earlier this season but the Goan side has picked up form, winning three of their last four matches. “They have more confidence now as the coach has had time to implement his ideas across and their style of play is well defined. I don’t think the longer break that they had before this match will be that big an advantage and what we will see tomorrow is two good teams,” said Vaz Pinto.

Midfielder Arun Kumar has found it difficult to get some minutes under his belt this season but 24-year-old has experience of being in a title race in the Bangalore Super Division. “We can never predict the outcome of the championship so the best thing to do is take it game by game and fight till the end.” he said.

The match will kick off at 4:30pm IST on March 24, Sunday and will be telecast live on the Indian Football YouTube channel and the Fancode App.
