2018 FIFA World Cup – Group A: Saudi Arabia win late over Egypt!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Monday, June 25 with Saudi Arabia scoring a late 2-1 win over Egypt at the Volgograd Arena.

After a slow start, Egypt went ahead in the 22nd minute through a goal from their superstar Mo Salah, who lobbed the ball over a charging keeper Al-Mosailem.

The game opened up but Saudi Arabia had to rely on penalties for real opportunities. In the 41st minute Fathy handled the ball in the area, but Al-Muwallad’s penalty was saved by 45 year old keeper El-Hadary. But Egypt offered Saudi Arabia another chance in added time with Al-Muwallad fouled but a long discussion followed, VAR was involved but the decision stood. Al-Faraj this time took the penalty and scored to equalise.

In the second session, Saudi Arabia had more of the ball but they had to wait until the fifth minute of added time when Salem Al-Dawsari scored past El-Hadary to give Saudi Arabia their first FIFA World Cup win in 24 years, while Egypt stay winless in their third tournament.
