2018 FIFA World Cup – Group D: Nigeria score a 2-0 win over Iceland!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Friday, June 22 with Nigeria winning 2-0 over Iceland due to two brilliant Ahmed Musa goals at the Volgograd Arena.

The less said about the first session the better as Iceland at least tried to play football and had chances mainly through Sigurdsson, but at the break it was goalless.

At the start of the second session, Nigeria made their first attempt after only 12 seconds but Etobo’s shot was no problem for keeper Halldorsson. Only minutes later in the 49th minute, a counter attack in which Victor Moses found Ahmed Musa, who had to control the ball and then volley it into the net. Nigeria were suddenly in the lead.

The complexion of the game changed as Iceland were shocked and Nigeria grew in confidence and the Africans now waited for counters to hit Iceland once more and that happened in the 75th minute, only a minute after Ahmed Musa had hit the crossbar, he was send solo, he beat Arnason and keeper Halldorsson to score his second of the day.

VAR gave Iceland a penalty after the referee had waved play on as Finnbogason was hit on the calf by Ebuehi, but Gylfi Sigursson shot over and this final chance for Iceland to stage a comeback was wasted.

Nigeria won 2-0, now have a final against Argentina to reach the knockout stages, while Iceland face Croatia.
