The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Saturday, June 23 with Mexico scoring a second win, a 2-1 over South Korea at the Rostov Arena.
Mexico had more of the ball initially with South Korea concentration on counter attacks and the ploy seemed to work as both teams had chances with Korea star Heung Min Son having a triple chance in the 22nd minute but no goal.
Mexico earned a penalty only a few minutes later as Jang handled the ball in the area. Carlos Vela took the spot kick and send Cho the other way. South Korea was shocked but Mexico couldn’t utilise that fact and it stayed 1-0 at the break.
The second session started slowly in the heat of Rostov, but around the hour mark picked up again with chances at both ends before Mexico sealed the game with a 3vs2 counter in the 66th minute which Chicharito finished off.
Son continued to try his luck but he only succeeded in scoring in the third minute of added time, way to late for a comeback as Mexico beat South Korea to stay top with six points, while South Korea lose their second match in a row.
