After a journey that saw over 190 teams battle it out in online qualifying, Complexity Gaming were crowned new FIFA eClub World Cup champions today after a weekend of intense drama, passion and excitement in Milan.
Following three days of fierce competition between some of the world’s top professional FIFA eSports players, Complexity Gaming secured the coveted world title after a clinical performance which saw them beat Ellevens on penalties to secure the USD 40,000 top prize as well as maximum EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series Ranking Points.
In the first team event of the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series, the FIFA eClub World Cup 2020 provided top professional FIFA eSports players from around the world the chance to take a major step forward in the FIFA 20 Global Series Rankings as they look to qualify for the FIFA eWorld Cup™ later this year.
Speaking after winning the FIFA eClub World Cup 2020, Joksan ‘Redona’ Redona Tello (USA) from Complexity Gaming said, “Winning the FIFA eClub World Cup 2020 together with Max (‘MaXe_VIP’ Popov) is massive. Qualifying for FIFA events now is so tough and the level of competition amongst the community is so high. Winning the FIFA eClub World Cup title is huge for us and a major step forward ahead of the FIFA eWorld Cup this summer.”
The crowning of Complexity Gaming as the new FIFA eClub World Cup champion marked the end of an exciting three days of competition in Milan – the first time that Italy have hosted an international FIFA team eSports event.
Featuring the 2v2 match format – which sees two players play together as one team in the final round of each tie in the group stage, as well as the second match in the knockout phases – the FIFA eClub World Cup 2020 once again provided an opportunity for the community to showcase the world-class skills, tactical knowledge and excitement that is unique to competitive FIFA gaming.
Christian Volk, Director of eFootball & Gaming at FIFA, said, “The FIFA eClub World Cup 2020 has once again highlighted what FIFA eSports has to offer to audiences and football fans around the world. As the professional FIFA eSports scene continues to develop and go from strength-to-strength, we are really excited for the future of the sport, as well as remainder of the FIFA 20 Global Series, and we look to forward to helping more member associations, clubs and the wider FIFA eSports community continuing to grow and develop in a healthy and sustainable way.”
“As we turn our attention now towards Copenhagen and the FIFA eNations Cup 2020 in May, many congratulations to both Joksan Redona and MaXe_VIP on a great tournament in Milan and to Complexity Gaming on becoming this year’s FIFA eClub World Cup champions.”
Taking place on May 22-24 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the FIFA eNations Cup 2020 is FIFA’s official inter-nation team eSports competition.
