David Wagner no more FC Schalke 04 head coach!

Struggling Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 have parted ways with head coach David Wagner with immediate effect. His assistant coaches Christoph Bühler and Frank Fröhling were also placed on gardening leave on Sunday, September 27 morning.

Besides the financial problems at the club due to the pandemic, Schalke 04 have been on an 18 match winless streak since January 2020, which in the end resulted in the firing of David Wagner, who after a good start last season, went winless for the rest of the seasons 16 matches.

Schalke 04, Head of Sport, Jochen Schneider said, “We had all hoped that we could improve on the pitch together with David Wagner. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen the right performances and results from the first two games of the season for this to happen.”

“We have therefore decided to make a fresh start. Despite the disappointing results, this wasn’t an easy decision for us to make. I would like to thank David Wagner, Christoph Bühler and Frank Fröhling, who, up until their departure, have done everything they can to get Schalke back on track.”

FC Schalke 04 will announce a successor in the coming days with speculations that former club legend Marc Wilmots could take over at S04.
