Delhi Dynamos score 3-1 away win at FC Pune City!

A comprehensive display by Delhi Dynamos earned them a 3-1 win at FC Pune City to extend their unbeaten run to six games. In a complete all-round performance, the team started attacking from the word go, and with 26 attempted shots and 58% possession, gave the home team no chance to bounce back into the game.

Delhi Dynamos started against FC Pune City with three changes. Hero of the last match Daniel Lalhlimpuia got a start while Carmona and Romeo came in place of Marcos Tebar and Nandha Kumar. In Tebar’s absence, Gianni Zuiverloon captained the side for the first time.

It was a quick start for the visitors with Ulises Davila making an attempt at the post right in the first minute of the game. The combination of Ulises and Carmona, which was a new, was very quick for the Pune defence. But the home side road blocked Delhi Dynamos attacks to survive the initial wave of attacks.

But the deadlock was soon broken as FC Pune City succumbed to the Delhi Dynamos attack with Lallinzuala Chhangte giving the visitors lead with a fantastic finish off a superb cross by Romeo Fernandes in the 17th minute. This was Chhangte’s fifth goal of the season.

FC Pune City however soon levelled thing with Nikhil Poojary scoring a screamer from outside the box in the 22nd minute. FC Pune City’s goal opened up the game for some time, which until then was majorly dominated by Delhi Dynamos.

But the goal did not back Delhi Dynamos down with Daniel and Ulises combined with Chhangte continued their string of attacks. Daniel had his first shot in the 26th minute, but Kamaljit Singh was in the right position to grab that, two minutes later Ulises tried his luck, but again could not go past the FC Pune City custodian.

This consistent pressure paid of well in the 30th minute with Romeo curling a beautiful ball in, deceiving Kalmjit with the flight, to give back Delhi the lead. This was the first goal of the season for the Goan and he became the 12th player of the Delhi Dynamos to score this season.

Delhi Dynamos also did very well defensively with Zuiverloon and his co standing rock solid in front of the lethal Pune attack.

The match broke into half-time with Delhi Dynamos being the better team on pitch on every aspect.

FC Pune City started the second half on a positive note, with Iain Hume creating a dangerous ball for Robin Singh, but the former Delhi Dynamos player failed to capitalise on the chance and passed the ball straight to Dorronsoro.

But Delhi Dynamos returned to the full flow once again with Daniel scoring his third goal in two matches and giving the visitors a 3-1 lead in the 52nd minute. It was a shot of Ulises which Kamaljit punched back, and the 21-year-old Mizo lad slotted the rebound in. The making of this goal was a brilliant one two one two between Zuiverloon and the Mexican Ulises Davila.

Delhi Dynamos was on top of the game consistently as the visitors won three back to back corners in the 71st minute. The team from the capital exploited Pune’s lapses consistently, with Gombau’s side playing free flowing football. Ulises almost made the score 4-1 in the 54th minute, but his well hit shot hit the post and came back to play.

FC Pune City’s frustration was very vividly on display as they committed unnecessary fouls and dived around to get back into the play. But it was a complete master class by Josep Gombau as he nullified every possible aspect of the home team game.

Things turned out even more ugly for FC Pune City when in the final minute of the regulation time, Marcelinho received his second yellow card of the game after elbowing Marti Crespi. This was the third time in the season that the FC Pune City player was sent off the field.

The nightmare thus ended for FC Pune City with Delhi Dynamos bagging all three points, scoring three goals against the one goal by the home team, and extending their unbeaten run to six.
