Kolkata giants East Bengal Club have announced the signing of the duo of Pintu Mahata and Abhishek Ambekar from archrivals Mohun Bagan.
Talented 22 year old midfielder Pintu Mahata has signed a three year contract with the red and gold. Pintu is a product of the Mohun Bagan SAIL Football Academy and spend the last three seasons with the Mohun Bagan senior team. The midfielder had his breakthrough season in the last campaign of the Calcutta Football League and I-League.
27 year old Abhishek Ambekar is a wing-back, who started his football locally in Thane. After spending time with the Air India U-19s, he graduated to the Air India senior team. From there he went on to play for now defunct Mumbai Tigers and Mumbai FC.
Abhishek left professional football for a job at Reserve Bank of India and also represented Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy. In 2017 he joined Minerva Punjab FC and was a core member of the squad which sensationally won the 2017/18 I-League title.
For his performances he earned a transfer to Mohun Bagan for whom he was a regular and he now makes the switch to their archrivals East Bengal.
