The Indian national women’s football team is currently in Malaysia for a planned two match international friendly series, which on Friday was reduced to a one match encounter due to a mistake by the two federations involved.
The Football Association of Malaysia did not consider a FIFA rule which states that between two official matches, no matter if qualifier or friendly, one needs to have two full days, which here was not the case with matches planned on Saturday and Monday.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in a release on Friday, July 28 had stated:
The international women “A” match between Malaysia and India, which are scheduled to take place at the PKNS Field, Kelana Jaya, tomorrow night has been cancelled. However, another match involves the clashes of both teams at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium on Monday, will remain take place as scheduled.
It is sad that such a minor mistake took both Malaysia and India the chance of another friendly, which would have helped both set of teams.
One hopes such a mistake is not committed in the future.
