Andrés Iniesta said, “My time at Barça ends here because I know how demanding the club is and what it means to be captain of the best team in the world. I wanted to be honest with myself and the club.”

“It was never easy to leave my family when I was just 12. It was a hard journey, but all that sacrifice was worth it because my dream of being a success at Barça came true.”

“All the love that the fans have shown me over the years will live on in my heart and I will enjoy these last few games in a very special way.”

“It’s been an honour to share a dressing room with Leo Messi. We have had unique, magical moments with him at our side. There will never be anyone else like him.”

“I’d like to be remembered for being a great footballer and a great person. I have tried to represent the club as well as it deserves and I hope I managed to do that.”

Andrés Iniesta ended by saying, “I’ve been very lucky with the coaches and team-mates that I’ve had throughout my career. They’ve always been good to me and that’s made me a better player and person.”

He also left open which club he would join in the summer, only saying that he would not play in Europe, not to face Barca in a competition with the Chinese Super League a likely destination.
