FC Goa & Jamshedpur FC face each other with ISL playoffs in mind!

FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC face each other in the ISL-Season 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Monday evening. After such a long break, Cesar Ferrando and his men will be looking to kick-start the second phase of the season with a bang to assert their position as a key top four candidate.

Standing in their way tomorrow will be Sergio Lobera’s FC Goa who can surely be termed as the entertainers of the Indian Super League. The Gaurs, just like Jamshedpur FC, went into the break on the back of a brilliant win (5-1 vs North East United) and signed off 2018 in the best way possible.

Ahead of the much-awaited encounter, Cesar Ferrando previewed the clash against Goa as he said, “FC Goa is a good team but I hope to win. They want to play to stay in the top four just like us. They have a good coach, good players and they play very well. They are a team who score a lot of goals. We have to control the match and break well. We have a lot of things to be careful about because we are facing a good team tomorrow.”

Both teams have displayed an intent to play possession-based football which is evident by their average possession so far in the league. Jamshedpur FC have had a 52% average share of the ball in 12 games whereas the Gaurs have had 57% of the ball in their respective matches. It will be interesting to see the approach taken by Jamshedpur FC tomorrow with Cesar Ferrando particularly emphasizing the need for his side to break on the counter well.

For the away side, Sergio Cidoncha has returned from his long injury layoff and is line to make his comeback for the side from Jharkhand. Michael Soosairaj has also been deemed fit for tomorrow’s match which will be a huge boost for Cesar Ferrando. Meanwhile, Carlos Calvo is suspended for tomorrow’s clash.

In his pre-match press conference, Cesar Ferrando revealed that new Jamshedpur FC signing, Augustin Fernandes is not completely fit for the game against FC Goa but the 30-year-old has travelled with the side. Whereas, FC Goa have been bolstered by the addition of the Moroccan attacker, Zaid Krouch and have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Tomorrow’s game guarantees an action-packed encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as two attacking sides go head to head in search of all three points. Last time around, Jamshedpur FC had convincingly beaten the Gaurs 4-1 at the Furnace. Will Goa avenge revenge or will Jamshedpur FC return from their Goa excursion with three points in the bag?
