India U-17 Women’s Alex Ambrose: Overall development is of paramount importance!

A day before taking on Tai Po Women’s Team in their second match in Hong Kong, India U-17 Women’s Team head coach Alex Ambrose expressed that the “overall development of the team” is the most important thing.

“It’s a developmental squad and the overall development of the team is of paramount importance, not the result,” Ambrose said.

After ransacking the Hong Kong U23 Women’s National Team 5-1, the girls will challenge the Taipo Women’s Team at the Hong Kong FA Training Centre on Sunday, June 23. The match will kick-off at 1pm IST.

The Indian midfielders played an exquisite brand of football to serve the ball on a platter to the forwards who smacked as many as five goals to decimate their opponents. The former India international feels “the game was not as easy as the scoreline depicts”.

“The girls are improving in every game that we are playing. Their commitment level throughout the game was wonderful, they kept discipline and held onto the shape by keeping the possession and maintaining their respective positions. We played to our potential and that was the key to our win,” Ambrose explained.

He further said, “Every girl will get an opportunity and we’ll obviously rotate the squad throughout the exposure trip.”

However, he prefers to stick to the plan and continue the learning process.

“There is more room for improvement and our primary focus is an overall development of the team. We’ll stick to our plan and continue working on our strengths to develop ourselves,” Ambrose added further.

“Learning shouldn’t stop and we would continue training hard which will help the girls understand the game in a better way. This will help them believe in themselves and gain confidence as well,” he concluded.
