Following an assessment of the current security situation in Iraq, FIFA and the AFC have informed the Iraqi Football Association that the country’s upcoming joint 2022 FIFA World Cup – Qatar and 2023 AFC Asian Cup – China qualifiers against Iran and Bahrain, which were scheduled to be hosted in Iraq on 14 and 19 November respectively, must be played on neutral ground.
The Iraqi Football Association has been requested to nominate a neutral venue for the said matches, which is subject to confirmation by FIFA and the AFC.
