ISL-4: FC Pune City sign Uruguay striker Emiliano Alfaro!

Indian Super League franchise FC Pune City have made Uruguay striker Emiliano Alfaro their first foreign signing ahead of ISL – Season 4.

Last season Emiliano Alfaro had played for NorthEast United FC scoring five goals in 13 appearances in ISL-3 and now returns to India to the western city of Pune..

FC Pune City CEO Gaurav Modwel said, “Alfaro is a forward with a penchant for finding back of the net. He is adept to lead line of attack for the team and his game awareness is something that we were very impressed with. I wish him all the best for his new stint and welcome him to FC Pune City.”

At Montevideo-based Liverpool FC 29 year old Emiliano Alfaro played at youth level before he gained his first professional experience from 2006 onwards as a teenager. In 2010 he spend some time at CA San Lorenzo in Argentina but returned after his loan spell.

In January 2012, Emiliano Alfaro made a move to Europe and signed for Italian Serie A side Lazio Roma, but after only six months he was send to UAE Pro League side Al Wasl FC on a season long loan. Thereafter he was send to his first pro club FC Liverpool in Montevideo having his goal scoring touch back, but he would never ever again play for Lazio Roma.

He was transferred to Thai Premier League side Buriram United but due to an injury he would never play for them. Former Uruguay international Emiliano Alfaro has been out of the game for the first half of 2016, but played in the second half of the year at NorthEast United FC before playing for Al-Fujairah SC in the first half of 2017.

FC Pune City’s head coach Antonio Habas said, “Alfaro is a complete player who we feel is rightly suited the style of football which we at FC Pune City like to play, that is attacking brand. He is very smart in making attacking moves and is also solid in defence when needed and I’m sure that’s going to be an asset to the team.”

“It was a good season in ISL last year and it’s time for me to find a new challenge. FC Pune City has good plans in place and I hope my stint with them is fruitful and I can make an indelible impression on the fans, especially the Orange Army,” said Alfaro.
