Mohammedan Sporting beat Bengaluru FC B at home!

Mohammedan Sporting Club scored a 1-0 win over Bengaluru FC B in a Second Division League clash at the Howrah Municipal Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday. Jiten Murmu’s 47th minute strike was the only goal of the game early in the second half to seal all points for the hosts, consigning Naushad Moosa’s Colts to their second defeat of the campaign.

The loss sent Moosa’s men, who went down to Chennaiyin FC B in the opener last month, to the bottom of the table after two rounds. Mohammedan Sporting, meanwhile, moved atop the standings after their second win and lead Group B with six points.

In what was an end-to-end encounter, Mohammedan Sporting took the lead immediately after restart following a goalless first half in Howrah. Defender Jagdeep Singh’s header on a cross inside the box fell to a dangerous area, allowing attacker John Uzodinma to capitalise. The Nigerian dribbled past two defenders, before setting up Murmu for a finish from close range in the 47th minute.

The Blue Colts created half chances throughout the game, and came closes to equalizing just past the hour mark. Defender Mohammed Rafi, who consistently pumped in long throw-ins throughout the game, found his attempt from the right flicked into the box by striker Akashdeep Singh. The ball caused a melee in the box, but a confusion among Bengaluru FC’s Shighil NS and Bekey Oram meant the chance went abegging.

Bengaluru FC B now face Bhowanipore FC in Kolkata on February 14 in their third straight away game, while Mohammedan Sporting face Chennaiyin FC B on February 20.
