Striker Mario Gomez returns to Germany, joins VW owned VfL Wolfsburg!

VfL Wolfsburg - Mario GomezGerman international striker Mario Gomez has returned to the Bundesliga by signing for Volkswagen owned club VfL Wolfsburg from AC Fiorentina for a fee of 7 Million Euros after having spend the last season successfully on loan with Turkish Süperlig champions Besiktas Istanbul.

The 31-year-old was officially presented as a VfL player earlier today and received his Green-White jersey with the number 33. Wolfsburg is the Swabian born front-man’s third club in the Bundesliga, following stints at VfB Stuttgart and FC Bayern Munich.

The former Bundesliga champion has made a total of 236 top-flight appearances in Germany, scoring an impressive 138 goals.

“I had a really good feeling after holding talks with Dieter Hecking and Klaus Allofs,” emphasised Gomez. The 31-year-old had already kept tabs on his new team mates and feels the Wolves can launch an attack in the coming campaign. “We have a very well-manned squad, which is one of the reasons that I have some to Wolfsburg. I believe we can play a good and successful season.”

VfL head-coach Dieter Hecking added: “We want to put pressure on the teams that pulled past us during the course of last season. In Mario, we have signed a further mosaic stone, who will help us along the route we have taken.”

VfL Director of Sport Klaus Allofs is extremely happy to have secured the services of one of the best German strikers: “We are delighted to have convinced Mario that VfL Wolfsburg is the right club for him!”

The ‘Footballer of the Year 2007’ suffered a hamstring tear during the EURO 2016 quarterfinal against Italy in France and, having worked individually since then, the goalgetter has immediately been able to return to training with the Wolves. “I’ve been given the clearance to get involved on the pitch and do a week of regenerative training. Then I can get back into full team sessions,” Gomez added.
