The AIFF technical committee met in Mumbai earlier today with chairman Bhaichung Bhutia, Western Indian Football Association’s (WIFA) CEO Henry Menezes, Kerala Football Association general secretary Anil Kumar and AIFF academy instructor Scott O’Donell besides AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das in attendance.
The key topic of discussion in the meeting was the contract of Indian senior national team head coach Stephen Constantine, whose contract runs out in February 2017 just ahead of the final round of qualifiers for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup which kicks off in March 2017.
The AIFF is set to offer Stephen Constantine a contract extension by a year until February 2018 with AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das given the task by the technical committee to negotiate the new contract with Constantine.
Before the technical committee met there had been speculations, if Stephen Constantine would be offered a contract extension or not with former Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood named in the media as a potential alternative.
Now it looks like that the AIFF technical committee wants Stephen Constantine to continue at least for another year, but if Stephen Constantine will accept the extension offer will have to be seen.
