I-League: Relegated Mumbai FC suffer heavy 0-4 defeat to East Bengal!

East Bengal Club routed relegated Mumbai FC 4-0 in their last I-League match at the Cooperage Stadium on Saturday, April 29. The winners led 2-0 at the interval.

The victory enabled East Bengal to finish in third position in the I-League table with 33 points from 18 matches while Mumbai FC finished their engagements with 13 points from 18 matches.

The first goal was scored by Bikash Jairu in the 7th minute, when Jairu timed his run to perfection and slotted the ball past rival goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani.

Right on the stroke of half-time, East Bengal scored their second goal — Trinidadian Willis Plaza adding his name to the scoresheet.

10 minutes into the second half Bikash Jairu who had scored East Bengal’s first, laid up Haitian Wedson Anselme with a superb back-heel. A grateful Wedson made no mistake to slot it home.

And it got worse for Mumbai FC 10 minutes later when Plaza made it 4-0 for East Bengal from 25 yards out by scoring his second of the night.

Winger Bikash Jairu was adjudged the Hero of the Match as East Bengal scored a rather easy 4-0 away win to prepare themselves for the Federation Cup.
