Delhi Dynamos end the season with a narrow 2-1 loss to ATK!

It was a disappointing end to the Delhi Dynamos Indian Super League Season 5 campaign as last match of the season ended in a narrow 1-2 loss to ATK at Kolkata.

Josep Gombau made just one change from his last game against FC Pune City as he fielded his starting XI for one last time this season. Marcos Tebar, who sat out in the last game due to an injury made his way back, while Marti Crespi had to miss out due to suspension.

It was a game of even play for both the teams as they battled it hard to get a breakthrough. It was, however, Dorronsoro in the first half, who had lesser trouble at the post, while Kolkata custodian was kept busy by the Delhi forward line.

The first real chance of the match came in for the visitors in the 13th minute when Narayan Das played a good ball to Adira Carmona, who laid it off for Romeo, but the winger from Goa hit the ball wide.

Exactly 10 minutes later, Narayan was involved in another move when he and Daniel created a beautiful ball for Ulises Davila, but the former Chelsea recruit failed to net the ball. Delhi also had their fair chance from free-kicks, with Kolkata playing a fairly physical game, but two golden chances were missed with Zuiverloon and Carmona hitting the ball wide on both the occasions.

The half thus ended with the deadlock yet to broken, but Delhi walked out with a little advantage of having created more chances than the home team.

The second half started with more intensity for both the teams. The ATK attack, which was quite contained until now, now looked for a breathing space as youngster Komal Thatal troubled the Delhi defence with his pace. However, the visiting team had their chances as well, as they tried to open the scoring with the counter attacks.

Ulises Davlia almost opened the scoring in the 48th minute when he and Chhangte were left unmarked. But a brilliant John Jonson block denied Delhi the chance.

The opening goal of the match however came in for the home team, when an unmarked Edu Garica headed a good ball by Pritam Kotal beyond Dorronsoro’s reach.

Reacting quickly to this goal, Josep Gombau made a triple substitution, bringing in Rene Mihelic, Sajid Dhot and Nandha Kumar in place of Adria Carmona, Rana Gharami and Romeo Fernandes. This paid off supremely for Delhi, as super sub-Nandha slotted in a powerful equalizer in the 72nd minute, bringing things to level.

Delhi Dynamos had far more chances later on to extend their lead, but somehow luck eluded them. ATK, on the contrary, took their chances well and in the 88th minute, Ankit Mukherjee scored a brilliant debut goal to hand ATK winner.

The Indian Super League season 5 campaign for Delhi Dynamos thus ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat for the Delhi Dynamos.
