Mumbai City FC needed a second half penalty goal from Achille Emana to beat former Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday evening.
The hosts Mumbai City FC had more of the ball and chances in the first session, but the guests from Chennai also had their attempts on goal. At the break it was goalless.
After the restart Chennaiyin FC had a double chance to go ahead through Mohammed Rafi and Thoi Singh, but they had to pay the price on the hour mark as Balwant Singh was fouled and a penalty awarded.
Midfielder Achille Emana took the spotkick and gave the home side the lead. Chennaiyin FC tried their best to equalise but resolute defending by the hosts earned them a morale boasting 1-0 victory.
