ISL-4: FC Goa hold off Chennaiyin FC to win 3-2 away!

In a rematch of the 2015 Indian Super League final, FC Goa took revenge and defeated the then champions Chennaiyin FC at their home, the Marina Arena in Chennai, with a 3-2 scoreline on Sunday.

It was a match of two halves with FC Goa dominating the first session away, while the home side Chennaiyin FC made a valient comeback after the break but they could not get a third goal which would have meant a point for them.

After two goalless encounters, the third match of ISL – Season 4 saw a total of five goals scored.

FC Goa played free flowing football from the start but they had to wait until the 25th minute when Brandon Fernandes played the ball to Ferran Corominas who put the ball into the far corner of the next past keeper Karanjit Singh.

And only four minutes later FC Goa doubled their lead when first Karanjit Singh blocked a Mandar Rao Dessai attempt, but Manuel Lanzarote lobbed the rebound perfectly into the net for Goa’s second.

The FC Goa show wasn’t over yet in the first half as Mandar added a third in the 39th minute with a fierce shot into the nets. FC Goa took a clearcut 3-0 lead into the break.

But somehow things changed after the break with Chennaiyin FC hitting the woodwork twice in the 48th minute through Jeje Lalpekhlua and Gregory Nelson, but they had to wait until the 70th minute when an Inigo Calderon free-kick slipped through the gloves of Kattimani.

With their first goal on the scoreboard, Chennaiyin FC tried everything to get back into the match. In the 84th minute, Kattimani made his second major mistake of the match when he had unallowed contact with Jeje for which the referee pointed to the spot. Raphael Augusto made no mistake to reduce the deficit further but FC Goa went on to win the match 3-2.
