The Manipur women’s team won the Senior Women’s National Football Championship held in Phagwara, Punjab on Sunday, June 5. It beat the Railways 3-1 in the final. In doing so the team also extended its record run in the championship by lifting its 18th overall title.
In a repeat of last year’s final, the Railways looked to retain their championship but Manipur had other plans. The game unlike the previous year did not require the uncertainty of penalties and was put to bed by the proficient Manipuri side.
The team remained unbeaten throughout the competition scoring 37 and conceding just 2 goals in the process.
