Minerva Punjab FC’s Chandigarh Youth League kicks off with a bang!

A festive atmosphere descended upon the Sector 17 Football Stadium in Chandigarh as more than 300 youngsters of the city reported for the pre-competition meet of the Chandigarh Youth League today. The Chandigarh Youth League is being organised by Minerva Punjab FC in association with the Chandigarh Football Association and Mission XI Million.

Individual players were allocated teams and kits were distributed among the participants. Team allocations were done after assessment by Minerva coaches on the basis of skill level, height, age etc. Each team will be mentored by a Minerva Punjab FC coach. After team allocations Minerva Punjab FC coaches underwent light training and practice session to acquaint the participants with the field and their team mates. Participants were divided into 8 teams for each age group and matches will kick off tomorrow at 8am. Each team will play minimum of six matches during the league.

Organisers have planned interactive games not only for the participants but also for the parents of the kids to get them involved in the festivities. The Chandigarh Youth League which will be an annual affair has been set up to introduce kids to football outside the school curriculum and get them interested in the sport with healthy competition and exciting matches amidst festive atmosphere. The CYL is the perfect summer football fix for players of all ages.

Kunal, a student of Class VIII at St. Anne’s School Chandigarh said, “I am very excited about the league, me and my friends have entered our team and are excited to play our first match tomorrow. We all love football but we never played any competition before so we are hoping to win some matches and I hope I can score some goals.”

Minerva Punjna FC CEO Ranjit Bajaj said, “We are delighted with the overwhelming response we have got from the Tricity area and kids and parents alike are excited about the league which is the highlight of their summer vacations. Many kids have come upto me and told me that they are fans of Minerva Punjab FC and have been following the I-league. One kids said his dream is to play for Minerva Punjab FC one day, I am so happy that we have been able to inspire local kids to take up football.”
