Eintracht Frankfurt and 1.FFC Frankfurt have sealed the merger that had been prepared over the last few months, creating a new hub of German women’s youth and senior football at the heart of Europe.
On Tuesday, June 16, Eintracht board members Axel Hellmann, Fredi Bobic and Oliver Frankenbach and club president Peter Fischer signed off on the merger, together with Siegfried Dietrich, general manager of 1.FFC Frankfurt, and FFC chairman Jürgen Ruppel. As of July 1, 2020, the 1.FFC Frankfurt teams will sport the Eintracht eagle on their jerseys.
From SG Praunheim via 1.FFC to Eintracht
1.FFC Frankfurt was created in August 1998 from the women’s football section of SG Praunheim, taking over the licence on January 1, 1999 of a club that had been part of the Women’s Bundesliga since its founding in 1990 and which had played in every season up until that date. 1. FFC has gone on to win seven German league titles, nine DFB Cups and four UEFA Champions League titles, making it one of the most successful women’s clubs in Europe.
Professionalism from the youth teams onwards
This success story is now set to be infused with the Eintracht Frankfurt spirit, with the ideal structure in place to achieve even greater goals as the two Frankfurt clubs combine their women’s youth and senior football activities.

The Women’s Bundesliga team is packed with internationals from various countries and currently sits fourth in the table with three matches of the current season remaining. The FFC second team has also managed to secure its place in Bundesliga 2 after the enforced break.
“1.FFC have had a greater impact on German women’s football over the past 20 years than any other club, and turned Frankfurt into an incredible centre for domestic and international women’s football,” said Axel Hellmann, board member of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG.
1.FFC Frankfurt general manager Siegfried Dietrich meanwhile is looking forward to a new era in women’s football in Frankfurt: “I am incredibly happy and grateful that this contract has been signed with Eintracht Frankfurt, after an extensive and highly-focused period of preparation. For us this is a dream come true.”
