AFC Coach Education Conference makes much-awaited comeback!

Returning for the first time since 2019, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) kicked off the 4th AFC Coach Education Conference in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday under the theme of “Educating Tomorrow’s Coaches”.

With Coach Education being among the key technical pillars of the AFC in its pursuit of developing football at all levels on the Continent, the three-day long Conference will witness some of the most renowned experts, not only in Asia, but from around the world share their ideas on the best ways to develop coach education programmes in a holistic manner.

The Conference, which includes speakers such as FIFA’s Branco Ujevic, was inaugurated by the Confederation’s General Secretary, Datuk Seri Windsor John.

“Our ability to achieve our collective ambitions to be the world’s leading Confederation and to ensure the success of our teams relies significantly on our ability to establish quality pathways and systems for our coach educators,” said Datuk Seri Windsor in his opening remarks.

“Quality players and teams require competency, and top-level education represents the cornerstone of producing world-class coaches. Over the years, even throughout the pandemic era, the AFC has continued to work in close partnership with our Member Associations (MAs) to elevate our standards,” he continued.

The programme for the Conference has been curated with utmost care and will ensure that all key areas necessary to build the best coach education programme are given adequate attention to.

The event will include activities ranging from workshops on understanding the emotional and mental well-being of players, to lectures from technical experts such as Takeshi Ono of the Japan Football Association and Scott O’ Donell of the Football Association of Malaysia.

“Asian football has shown undeniable progress in the last few years, both in the men’s and the women’s game and the future looks really bright. So we must ensure that as coaches, we are constantly staying up-to-date with the latest developments to build a strong foundation for our future generations,” said Qatar Football Association’s Development Director Fahad Abdulla Al Zarraa.
