Manchester City 125th anniversary season launches with new kit!

Manchester City FC’s 125th anniversary celebrations got under way with a launch event held at the City Football Academy earlier this week.

Over the course of July 31 evening, fans and invited guests were given a glimpse into City’s plans to celebrate the Club’s milestone season.

Mike Green, Head of City in the Community, announced a fundraising initiative to support the charity’s ongoing work to tackle social issues in Manchester.

All funds raised will be channelled towards this initiative and, at the start of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, a new five-year programme will be launched – specifically focused on children’s development – to leave a legacy from the Club’s 125th season.

To mark the end of the event and officially launch the 125th year, Manchester City and new kit partner PUMA unveiled their specially designed commemorative anniversary kit, which will be worn by the men’s team when they take on Liverpool FC in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday, August 4.

The kit is inspired by the Club’s history, with specific design elements voted for by the Club’s fans, and is primarily light blue with a white trim.

The crest features gold lettering denoting the Club’s 125 years. The shirt is a classic design, free of shirt sponsorship. This was made possible for the Club’s special anniversary, by the support of Etihad, the Club’s principal partner, and Nexen Tire, sleeve partner.

The inside neck of the shirt also contains a copy of the Club’s founding document, signed by Joshua Parlby, who played an instrumental role in leading the members of Ardwick AFC to found and incorporate Manchester City Football Club.

A limited edition run of 1,894 individually numbered authentic shirts will produced to reflect the Club’s founding year, as well as replica shirts for men, women and kids.

Commenting on Manchester City’s 125th anniversary season, Chief Operating Officer, Omar Berrada, said, “Manchester City has enjoyed tremendous success in recent years, but we also have a rich history that we are incredibly proud of.”

“The Club’s 125th anniversary season will provide us with the opportunity to mark key moments in the life of Manchester City, and celebrate the fantastic journey that our Club and our fans have been on together.”

“Tonight we were delighted to be joined by our fans, club figures – both past and present – and representatives from the city of Manchester, as we marked the start of this very special season.”
