Live Streaming Platform transforming AFC Member Associations’ fans engagement capabilities across Asia!

More viewers in more countries and stronger foundations to generate more income for Member Associations has been the remarkable results of the AFC’s Live Streaming Platform (LSP), which has led to greater engagement and accessibility for football fans throughout the Continent and across the globe.

Since its inauguration in July 2016 in Bhutan, the AFC, together with partners Mycujoo, have embarked on an exciting campaign through the LSP to grow the popularity of the game, as envisaged in the AFC’s Vision and Mission, and open new possibilities for revenue generation.

The impact of the LSP over the past 18 months on the Member Associations has been undeniable. The ever-expanding platform, which now falls under the ambit of the AFC President’s Development Initiative, has been extended to an impressive 28 Member Associations across the five AFC regions.

Increasing its presence in the Continent each day, the LSP has registered a staggering 18.9 million views, connecting users from over 122 countries to 1,544 matches, ranging from the national leagues, international friendlies, to the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, the AFC Cup preliminary stage as well as the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 qualifiers.

Alisher Urunov, Director of National Football League, from the Tajikistan Football Federation said: “In today’s world, football cannot only rely on traditional means of communication in order to reach its fans across the globe. We need to embrace modern and latest technologies to make the game reach as many fans as possible even far across.’

Chinese Taipei and Philippines are among the top beneficiaries of the LSP having registered two million views with Singapore, Jordan, Mongolia, Guam and Thailand also reaping the rewards, each with over a million views.

Phuntsho Wangdi, Media and Marketing Manager at the Bhutan Football Federation added: “Football broadcasting is an evolving concept in Bhutan. Therefore, the online streaming platform is extremely useful for us to engage with more fans. With a simple device and video camera, we will now be able to showcase our competitions and events live across various social media platforms.

“The LSP is helping us enhance the value proposition of our products and enabling us to attract more sponsors and investments. For example, this season, we have included our main sponsor’s branding on our LSP page, with the hope to increase the exposure and publicity for our sponsors.

‘Looking ahead, our intention is to ensure that we are in the best possible position to maximise the returns of our league when we start to renegotiate the new extended deal.

“Ultimately, with more funds, we can redistribute the funds to improve the league and further develop the game in a country where the passion for football continues to grow rapidly.”
